Gear Tooth Hall Effect Speed Sensor

The gear tooth hall effect speed sensor can detect the presence of a ferrous metal target. It can be used with a wide variety of gears or target shapes and sizes. The use of hall effect technology means that the sensor has the ability to sense zero speed. The gear tooth hall effect speed sensor is versatile enough to provide sensing of cam shaft and transmission speeds and engine rpm. It can also be fitted to tractors, electric vehicles, exercise equipment and other items such as industrial process control machines.

Learn More About Our Hall Effect Speed Sensors

There are several different technologies that can be used to create a gear tooth hall effect speed sensor.

Oriented Hall Effect Speed Sensor: Incorporates a magnet within the speed sensor. Sensors can be optimized to detect fine as well as large pitch targets. These sensors must be oriented to target rotation, which does add additional installation considerations. Oriented Hall Effect Speed Sensor Specifications

Non-Oriented Hall Effect Speed Sensor: These sensors are similiar to oriented versions, but are optimized to provide extremely accurate tooth edge detection when used with larger pitch targets. A non-oriented gear tooth hall effect speed sensors offers the unique advantage of not requiring orientation to the target. Non-Oriented Hall Effect Speed Sensor Specifications

Hall Effect Speed Sensors for Magnetic Targets: Require that the target be a magnet, such as magnets embedded in gear teeth, blade tips, or ring magnets. The advantage of this series, versus other Hall Effect types, is that they can sense longer air gap distances. There are a number of different types of these devices, each optimized to sense a different type of magent, including Bipolar Switch, Latch, Omnipolar Switch, and Unipolar Switch. Hall effect speed sensors can also be found in dual channel quadrature output versions and intrinsically safe (ATEX and CSA certified) models.
